Refunds
Last updated 19 September 2026
The short version. A pass unlocks the moment you pay, so there are no change-of-mind refunds. If a pass is broken, incomplete or not what we described, email us and we will fix it or refund you.
Why there is no cooling-off period
Buying digital content online normally comes with 14 days to change your mind. That right ends once you have agreed to the content being delivered straight away and acknowledged that you are giving the right up — which is exactly what the tick box at checkout asks you to do, before you pay.
We could have held your pass back for 14 days to preserve the right. Nobody wants that; you want the map now. So we do it the other way round and are upfront about the trade.
When we do refund
Your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are untouched by any of the above. We will refund you if:
- your pass never unlocked, or stopped working and we could not fix it;
- the pass is not what we described — for example a country has far fewer places than the site said;
- you were charged twice, or charged for a pass you already owned;
- something is plainly wrong and it is our fault.
We would usually try to put the problem right first. If we cannot, you get your money back.
Things that are not a fault
A pass is a set of personal recommendations, not a guarantee about any business. These are not grounds for a refund:
- a place has closed, moved, changed hands or got worse since the creator went;
- you did not like somewhere, or it was busy, or it was more expensive than you expected;
- you bought the wrong country by mistake — though do email us, because we are reasonable about honest mistakes made within a day or two of buying;
- Google Maps or Dazhong Dianping is unavailable where you are.
How to ask
Email [email protected] from the address you used at checkout, or tell us what that address was, and say what went wrong. We answer within two working days.
If we agree a refund, it goes back to the card or wallet you paid with. Stripe usually takes five to ten working days to land it, which is their timing, not ours.
What happens to your access
A refunded pass stops working. Our system picks up the refund from Stripe automatically and re-locks that country the next time the site checks, on every device you had it on.
Before you call your bank
If you are about to dispute a charge, please email us first. A chargeback takes weeks, and we can almost always sort it out the same day. If you do not recognise a charge, it will show on your statement as SOMEWHEREGOOD.IO.
